There are three Crowne Plaza hotels in Orlando. I spent five nights at the Crowne Plaza Universal while attending a ship's reunion the last week of September and it was great. The hotel is new, (June 2002) and the employees were very courteous and helpful. They have a comp shuttle to some of the theme parks where you can get a connection to WDW.

If you are only going to Universal and Islands of Adventure, look into the on-site hotels. Guests at those hotels get "front of the line" passes. We were at Universal/IOA during a busy time but were able to see and do everything we wanted thanks to the pass. If the cost of the hotel is an issue, consider staying on-site for one night. You'll get two days of FOTL treatment (i.e., the day you check in and the day you check out) Check in early in the day - your room won't be ready but you'll get FOTL treatment at the park.
