Would appreciate:
1. Favorite HIKES within a 1/2 hour of Missoula
2. Favorite RESTAURANTS in Missoula
We tried several when we visited -- what are your favorites??
Other CAN'T MISS STUFF in MISSULA.
Dropping off daughter in MSO in AUG for freshman year at UMT.

Check out the USFS Smokejumper center. http://www.fs.fed.us/fire/people/smo...la/center.html
It may be a long hot summer with lots of activity there.

It's fun to hike up to the M on Mount Sentinel. It's a 3/4 mile hike, and you can look down on the town. The trail also continues to the top of Mount Sentinel.
Hiking up the Rattlesnake Wilderness area is also beautiful. It's just three or four miles from downtown.
Restaurants:
Plonk Wine Bar (for wine)
Scotty's Table (fine dining)
The Pearl Cafe (fine dining)
The Shack (breakfast)
Biga Pizza (my favorite; incredible wood-fired pizza)
Good Food Store (lunch and groceries)
Le Petit Outre (best bread)
Blackstone Roasting (best coffee)
Montgomery Distillery (great space and great cocktails)
Big Dipper Ice Cream (wonderful homemade ice cream)
Kettlehouse Brewing Co (good beer and fun tasting room)
(I love eating in Missoula, and never miss Biga Pizza or Big Dipper or Le Petit.)

It's fun to watch the kayakers at Caras Park. The Farmer's Market is huge on Saturdays. It's fun to walk up and down Higgins Avenue and check out the shops. I also like walking around the University district and checking out the great bungalows.
