Thank you beachbum for the marine air explanation. I guess it's such a part of our lives it never occured to me that people living in other places wouldn't know what that meant.
How many times have you escaped the hot temps in Portland only to find the beach shrouded in fog? Summer or winter, I always have a sweatshirt with me when I go to the beach - you just never know.
Now I'm off to take our steamboat out for a ride on the Columbia River. It should be a nice afternoon - and I'm looking forward to coming back into the dock at sunset. Can't beat it!

We enjoyed a nice day in Portland yesterday! After picking our daughter up at the airport we ventured over to the Nob Hill area for some pizza at Escape From New York and little shopping in the boutiques, then over to Nordstrom's for more shopping. 
We went through Astoria to get back to Seaside where we stopped at The Ship Inn for dinner, then back to the beach cottage where we took a nice sunset bike ride down the prom. ***kim***
