The Oregon coastline is beautiful. You have a variety of choices in types of beach communities. For a more upscale type, I'd recommend Cannon Beach. Seaside is ok, but more family style touristy, which is also the case with Lincoln City. Make sure and check out the Tillamook Cheese Factory for some good ice cream.

We are Portlanders, and we always go to Cannon Beach. I's one of the closest beach towns to Portland, is full of good arts, restaurants and bookstores, as well as a big, beautiful sand beach. Some consider it too "yuppified," but I like the cultural stimulation. Have fun!

Cannon Beach is the most expensive beach town in Oregon. My wife and I enjoyed Rockaway Beach, which is less expensive. We did have the restaurant service from Hell in a town south of Rockaway called Garibaldi (1/2 hour wait for drinks; another 45 minutes before food was served) but I am sure that restaurant has changed hands. The Tillamook Cheese factory is worth the visit. We still mail order cheese from Tillamook every Christmas. The smoked cheddar is a particular favorite of mine. The drive at Cape Meares peninsula is lovely. There is some sort of state park to stroll in at Cape Meares.

Rockaway Beach is not my favorite. Not many restaurants to choose from and not a lot to choose from to do. Cannon Beach is a lot better in my opinion, but it is more expensive and more touristy. I guess it depends on what type of beach experience that you want.
