One of these days, we all ought to Google up a trip. Then, we could post our experiences, including meals and things to do. Wouldn't that be a hoot? . I think Kal, Scarlett and Beachbum would enjoy it and maybe loveitaly.

Looks like we should give Crater Lake a miss this trip and come back another time in July/August to see it at its best. We are coming in June as it fits in with hubby's business trip and we can add a couple of weeks vacation on. What route do you suggest we take then from Bend to Ashland or should we just come down I5 and miss Bend too? Appreciate your advice. Arthur's Seat beachbum is an extinct volcano in Edinburgh, surrounded by glaciated rock giving fabulous views of the City and for miles around.

Inglewood from the UK, it is unlikely that you will encounter much snow, if any, next month on the roads in OR or CA, since this was not an especially heavy winter for us here (global warming and all that, you know). Although I don't know if you're aware that most of those hops you mentioned are 3- to 4-hour drives. The one from Bend to Ashland can be a particularly lonely one: not a lot of people live in central Oregon. But both Bend and Ashland are good little towns, the latter especially noted for its cultural offerings.

Oh: the Rose Festival is unlikely to curtail your normal sightseeing as long as you stay out of the center of downtown. Trade the roses for beads and head down to the Hawthorne District, where it's 1970s deja vu, and quite lively, too.

What? We have had much more snow than usual this year.

Regardless...from Bend to southern OR I would take HWY 97. You will be fine on there as the snow is in the mountains, not on the general highways. In the summer, this road gets quite a bit of traffic. It is not desolate by any means, but of course it isn't an interstate You said you could add some time to your trip. If you do that, keep checking the Crater Lake website to see if the north entrance is open. Crater Lake is fascinating, and quite beautiful, so if you make it work you will not be disappointed.

Do make sure and hit the beer gardens on the water front at the festival. It was my favorite episode of "Cops". =)
Are you catching a play while in Ashland or a show at the Britt festival in Jacksonville? Both are well worth it. If Britt is on your agenda check tickets now as they are going fast for many shows.
