ORD to Oak Park options

My husband and I will be arriving at OHare on a weekday morning in June and will need ground transportation to Oak Park (Carleton Hotel). What are the options and costs? Thanks much.

That's not going to be a problem. You can get a cab to Oak Park easily just by getting into the cabbie line.

Of course you could always rent a car if you needed one while in the area. But from Oak Park you could train downtown and depending on where you are going, that (renting a car) might not be necessary at all.

I've taken a cab twice as far in distance from OHare. 0ak Park also might have some shuttle vendors to your hotel- for that I would ask Carleton themselves. But I would say that most people just take a cab anyway.

Thank you. I was hoping that a cab was a reasonable way to go. We don't need a car as we will take the train downtown the next day for a few days at a conference.

Do you have any idea of the ballpark for the cost of the cab? I just want to make sure to have the cash on hand.

You know, I haven't done it recently, so I really have no idea. But I would just guess that it would be in the ballpark of $40 plus a tip. Maybe I am wrong. Anyone?

We live in the OP area and have found it is better and cheaper to book a cab in advance with either American Cab (www.americantaxi.com)or Blue Cab (www.bluecab.us). Then you call them once you have your luggage and they give you the number of the cab that will meet you at the curb. They are usually there within 10 minutes.

Follow-up: American Taxi was fine. Be aware that they do not take reservations at the airport but it is easy to call them from the hotel board in baggage claim. Just be sure to punch in the number for American Taxi (15). There are many similar sounding companies on the board.

Also: have an address, phone number and maybe a map to your destination. The drivers may not recognize even the more common hotels (ie Oak Park Carleton.)But we were more than satified with the pleasantness and effort that our driver showed in figuring out the route.
