Only one day in NOLA

Hi,

I've been to NO a few times with my husband, and we never left bourbon street. We will be there just for one day with our 18 year old son. We're coming to catch a cruise ship. We will arrive at 3:00 PM and are leaving the next day around noon. Any suggestions on places to take our son that afternoon and evening. The dungeon is not an option. Also for dinner we want to go somewhere fun that is not high priced. Is Remoulaude a good idea?

Thanks

We enjoyed our meal at Remoulade's. I've seen mixed reviews - some people love it, others weren't impressed. We had a great meal though. Good service, casual atmosphere, and really good food. Another restaurant we enjoyed was the Red Fish Grill, also on Bourbon. We had a really good meal and it didn't break the bank.

With the short time that you have, esspecially with an 18 year old boy I would recommend exploring the French Quarter a bit. There are several walking tours you could take to get a more in depth view of the Quarter - your son would probably enjoy a cemetery/voodoo tour or a nightime ghost tour. A touristy, but fun thing to do is take a carriage ride through the Quarter.

If you have time, take the St Charles Street car out to the Garden District - incredible houses in that neighborhood. Make sure to go during the day time though to get the best views. After dark there isn't a lot going on there and you can't see the houses as well.

Thanks J Correa. A voodoo or ghost tour sounds like a fun idea. There are so many companies that do these. Are there any that you recommend? Does anyone else have any ideas?

Thanks

We went with the Historic New Orleans Walking Tour Co when we took our cemetery/voodoo tour and really enjoyed it. The guide was very informative and was great about answering questions. The tour lasted 2 hours and the guide kept my interest the entire time.

We were going to take a haunted history tour through that same company, but we never got around to it. We had almost a week in NO and didn't see all the things we wanted to - LOL.

Manny's suggestion of Pelican Club is an excellent one!

Don't mean to be a wet blanket, but any organized tour in the French Quarter on Mardi Gras Day/Night has got to be difficult. The crowds are so thick, I really don't see how it can be done. Maybe that's why you could find only one company doing them. If I were you, I would put that off for a day. There's so much else to see, you're going to have a blast anyway!!
