Hi Nomi...

I live at Isle of Palms, SC, which is just about 25 mins. from downtown Charleston. Moved here 4 yrs. ago and am in love with both Charleston AND Savannah. A week should be okay between both places, but I guarantee you'll want to return!!!

For Charleston, check out our local Post & Courier (newspaper website).

Click on the down arrow in the first box and select Tips For Tourists. You'll find tons of stuff to do..tours, costs, plantation info, etc, etc.... If you need extra info, just post to me at:

I've been told that I should work for the Chamber of Commerce. There's soooo much to do here, and it's been voted the Most Polite City in America for the last several years for a good reason!

I've lived all over the US and cannot get over the ambiance of my new hometown that I don't plan to ever leave!

with apoolgies to both of you, my husband & I are planning on a 5 day/4 night trip to Charleston with a day trip to Savannah on one of those days.

Can we see the sights in 5 days ? I may
be able to extend the trip, I just didn't think a full week would be necessary - there is that much to do ?

You could probably find sights to entertain you for longer than that, BUT a lot of the attractions are similar in character. For example, Charleston has many fine old homes to tour but do you want five solid days of touring old homes, however fine they may be?
Having said that, do visit a few of the fine homes (don't try to do them all; after awhile they look the same). Be selective. There's one that advertises a freestanding spiral staircase but we saw the same damn staircase in two other houses that day.

Spend one day viewing a plantations out of town; the one with the Audibon Swamp Garden is good, and the Swamp Garden is very pleasant. I advise against trying to do two plantations in one day; plantation hopping is very expensive and you'd probably do better picking just one and lolling around all day than to rush through two.
Take the boat tour of that fort in the harbour; can't remember its name but there's only one; can't miss it. Be sure to take the tour that lets you explore the historical park on the island.
You can also head into Mt Pleasant (???) next to Charleston and tour a Navy Ship museum. Can't remember its name but it's the museum with the battleship docked next door; can't miss it! The cool thing about this museum is that the exhibits are actual boats; you wander through the actual battleship, for example.
One thing to remember about Charleston is it rolls its sidewalks up starting around 5:00 PM. After 5:00 PM you can walk and you can eat at restaurants, but *very little else*. We took to skipping lunch simply to make better use of time.

You will enjoy it!

Oh you are so lucky. Charleston is the most beautiful city in the U.S. I spent just over a week and crammed lots in. Please visit my website, click on United States. I've got the places to see including Savannah. Have a great trip.

Considering going to Charleston for a short trip over Memorial Day. Would we be able to see enough in 4 days? Also, being from the west, I can't stand high humidity. Would it be very bad by then - meaning over 80%?
