One way car hire - US to Canada?

Hi,

Does anyone know of any companies that allow a one way car hire from the US to Canada (specifically Seattle to Vancouver)?

I'm a UK citizen and so far have found that the few companies who allow it charge an outrageously high fee.

Thanks,

Chris

Hello Chris,

A couple years ago, before a cruise, we rented a Hertz car in Seattle, stayed the night in Seattle, then the next day drove across the border to Vancouver, dropped off the car right near the terminal. No problem.

Forgot to say also that there were no additional drop-off fees, one-way fees, etc. It seemed like they just had a stock of cars that went back and forth each day with the cruise passengers.

Some agencies have drop-off fees; others just add a substantial sum to the daily fee. Most major companies now allow it. If doing an extended tour (as you mentioned in your other thread) I would be careful to obtain prices for two separate rentals (with the train between) and compare the total with the one-way hire. You might spend less with two transactions.

Note airport pick-ups and drop-offs in both cities cost considerably more than in-city comparables due to airport taxes and fees.

Are you renting the car "just to get there" or will you be doing sightseeing along the way?

Hi Dukey,

We'd like to do lots of sightseeing along the way.
