One-way (and one day) car rentals

Where could I find the best deal for a one-way car rental from Harrisburg, PA, to Philadelphia next Thursday?

We'd leave early and get to the airport by 10 a.m. I'v never rented a car one way before, so I am simply lost.

Thanks!

Expedia will give you a chart listing various car rental companies, size cars, cost. One-day car rentals are usually for a 24 hour period - and so you may be talking about picking up car Wednesday evening.

I think this is hit-and-miss. You often can't even find one-way rentals on the comparison sites likes Orbitz or Expedia. But deals are out there, maybe based on a company's need to have their cars moved around. By calling Budget's 800 number, for example, I found an incredible rate of $14 a day for a mini van, picking up in Miami and returning in Chicago. I have to take it to Midway airport to return, but for $153 I have a minivan to use in Miami, and then cart home daughter's stuff!

Nationalcar.com will rent from Harrisburg airport to Phil airport but it will cost you about 80 bucks. You can pick up the afternoon before so that you don't have to rush in the morning. Insurance is $25 extra, but check with your home car insurance policy as you are probably covered for rentals and can refuse this option. A gold credit card will often cover the insurance, too, but you need to call the card provider to be sure.

I do know that Hertz does this and if it from certain locations, it isn't at a premium like some of their pricing.

Actually we did it spur of the moment, from NYC to Chicago after a flight was cancelled (Midway drop off as well). I do know that the cost ended up being reduced by half because we had it there within 12 hours. Sorry, can't remember what it ended up costing. Under $100 - for sure.
