Neal, I couldn't agree with you more about B. Altman's. Whenever I went into that store I felt as if I was transported back to NY in the 1890's. The interior was gorgeous, and yes, they did have the best Christmas windows. Sigh!
My first week in NYC, I was taken to B Altmans end of summer sale-the one where they lined up at dawn~it was quite an experience for this fresh from LA girl~I miss B Altmans too
"x" and "c", on Christmas Eve morning, one of the cable channels trotted out a 1967 film called "Fitzwilly", which featured both interior and exterior scenes of B. Altmans at Christmas. Talk about feeling wistful...

kammmi, some of those damn decorations are up for months after Christmas!!! Since they go up before Thanksgiving, we are all sick of them before they take them down.
