New York City at Christmas time
I have visited NYC before, but always in summer or fall. This year I will be in NYC the week before Christmas. What, besides the Christmas tree at Rockerfeller Plaza, is a must do for a tourist visiting New York at Christmas time? Thanks in advance.

The tree inside the Met museum, the Radio City Xmas show, A Xmas Carol at Madison Square Garden, the Nutcracker at Lincoln Center, the window displays at Lord & Taylor, Saks, Bergdorf & Barneys, concerts, carols at the South Street Seaport.

The city will be all "aglow" with lights over the holidays, and I would make a few recommendations of things to see.
There are lots of concerts at Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall, so check both websites for info and tickets.
The windows all along 34th St and up 5th Ave and Madison Ave will be decorated.
The "Tree" at the Museum of Natural History is another treat, it is decorated in orgami.
There is also a large tree at City Hall and one down by the Customs House and I think there is still the "living christmas tree" at the South St Seaport. One of the big choruses will be singing in a sort of scaffolding and it's Christmas Carols on Sat and Sun not sure of the times, go to the South St. Seaport website for details.
The Bronx Zoo is also a must see during the holidays. The ENTIRE zoo is light up at night and the zoo is open late, there are something like 1 million lights and alot of the exhibits are open for you to see. There could also be carolers, the New York Choral Society has been doing it for the last several years, but not sure if this season, with all the budget cuts. The website for the Zoo would probably have details.
As for skating, go see the skaters at Rock Center and then go skating at Wolman Rink in Central Park, there are fewer people and the rink is bigger and you surrounded by the park, it is really quite prett. We do that several times during the season, and it really is fun. Rock Center gets so crowded and you have to wait in line for hours not really worth the time.
You might also enjoy the Cloisters Museum, there are also concerts there usually on Sunday afternoon, and you will feel a world away from the city there. The museum is located in Ft. Tryon Park at the top of Manhattan, you have great views of the NJ pallisades from there and the Hudson.
Have a great time while you are here.
