One night stay across the water from Seattle

We don't have a current passport, so have to give up a night in Victoria, BC. We would like to take a ferry ride, spend the night somewhere close to Seattle and return to Seattle the next day. Any suggestions?

I don't really know what you'll gain from it, but Bremerton is over there, and seems most sensible.

I guess you should let us know if you'll be taking a rental car on the ferry trip.

IF so, you might be able to enhance your journey a good deal with a circuit of the Olympic Peninsula spending a night somewhere along the path.

While the spots merely across the water and off the ferry from Seattle are good for a diversion, I'd be inclined to advise most to just take the round-trip boat ride without even getting off the boat on the other side, unless there is something special you want to see.

Do you time to do the san juan islands? At least Bainbridge has a great view. The ferry ride alone is a great photo op. We loved Orcas Island, but had a car to tour the island. Lopez is great for biking.

San Juan islands would be the nicest, depending how much time you have on both days. Best would be leave Seattle early first morning and come back late the 2nd but we,ve even done Orcas as a day trip (I live just outside of Seattle) and it was still nice. Would need to drive to the ferry but can park overnight and not take your car on. Orcas has a greatl little bus that circles the island.

2nd suggestion would be just a day trip to Bainbridge. Can walk or BU's to terminal in Seattle and walk from Bainbridge terminal around the little town. Can also do kayak rentals in town or just have a meal.
