One night in Colorado Springs, which area?
Hi,
We're stopping in Colorado Springs for one night on road trip (coming from Kansas City and heading to Santa Fe) and I'm wondering which area is best to stay in. When I search on Hotwire, it asks whether I want North, South by World Arena, or the Airport. Which would you recommend? (We'd like to come back and spend more time here in the future which is why we've decided to make this one of our stops.)
I'm looking for something around $50-75 a night (which there seems to be a lot of on Hotwire) because we only plan on sleeping there. We plan to get in town around 5 or 6 at night, and leave around 8am. Any recommendations on a good place for dinner or breakfast would be great too.
Thanks!!

The North, South, World Arena areas are all on I-25 which I assume you are taking on to Santa Fe. Colorado Springs is not that large--you can get where ever you want to go quickly (except during rush hour).
Marigold Cafe and Bakery (northwest-Garden of the Gods area) and Adam's Mountain Cafe in Manitou Springs(west of downtown)are good for breakfast. Though I understand Adam's is moving somewhere else in Manitou Springs but I don't know where they are in the process--call them 719-685-4370.
Dinner -- upscale places--the Margarita at Pine Creek (north), Craftwood Inn (Manitou Springs). The Phantom Canyon Brewpub in downtown Colorado Springs--good beer, tasty food-not expensive. and you might check out the old Colorado City area (west of downtown)lots of restaurants and shops. Colorado Springs and environs has lots and lots of restaurants--so your choice depends on what you want to eat and to pay.
Enjoy Santa Fe--it's one of my favorite places in the world. When will you be there?

Thanks for all the info, Marym! Looks like we posted at the same time.
We're not sure exactly when we're going yet, maybe December. Santa Fe is one of my favorite places too - have been going there almost every year for about 10 years now. I've never been in December though - only spring, summer & fall. We have some friends who just moved to Kansas City, MO so that's the reason we're driving from Michigan. Planning on stopping there, then Colorado Springs, then Santa Fe. And then a very, very long ride home. (not looking forward to that part!)
Good to know the city's not that big. There seems to be a lot of reasonably-priced hotels on hotwire. I'll just pick a 3+ starred one and go!
I'll check out those restaurants you suggested too. Thanks again!

I love Santa Fe in the winter--less crowded, the smell of pinon smoke in the air. And often if it's a sunny, non-windy day-it's quite comfortable to walk around. Hope you're planning on going to 10,000 Waves for a private hot tub under starlit skies-magic!
