One last San Francisco Area Location
Need to make reservations for our last night on vacation in August. Flying from SFO at 12:30 PM. Would like to stay somewhere in the area where we can still enjoy a few morning hours before we leave in an interesting location for a nice breakfast at a "local" restaurant. An airport hotel is not what we have in mind. Does Millbrae, Burlingame, San Mateo fit this description. We had originally wanted to stay in Half Moon Bay but we're afraid it may be too far. Please help!

Although I agree that HMB may be too far for your purposes, I have to disagree casinoroyale's description of the town as nothing more than "a strip mall or two, some condos and a pumpkin farm". HMB is truely a charming town with a nice downtown and some beautiful scenery.
You might try Palo Alto for your last night. It has a nice downtown area with plenty of local restaurants. It's right off Hwy 101, so getting to the airport would be really easy.

We stayed in H M B one night before flying out of SFO and I don't recall it being much more than a half-hour drive to the airport. For a 9am departure I certainly wouldn't recommend it, but for a 12:30 noon I would think you'd have no problem.
Something about the ocean, always nice to say goodbye to your vacation there.

We live in the area. Half Moon Bay is not too far for your flight and it is very easy to get to the airport. You just get on Hwy 92 at HMB and drive east until you hit Hwy101. Go north on 101 for about 8 miles and you are at SFO. That does not seem too hard to me. Two turns and about 40 minutes. Most of the drive on 92 is pretty also.
The RITZ CARLTON at HMB is fantastic. Overlooks the ocean and built in the style of New England Lodge. This would be a great place for your final night or final breakfast. There are also other places on the ocean at HMB that are not as expensive at the Ritz. Downtown HMB has a lot of small shops and restaurants to look around in. Good way to spend the final evening in this area. I have no idea where the strip malls are that casinoroyale mentioned unless he means the places on Hwy1. I don't think he ever found downtown HMB as it is not located on HWY 1. It is one block off Hwy1. The other places on Hwy1 are just shopping centers. He missed the entire town! That is why you need to be careful on this site.
