One dinner and one lunch in Charleston - suggestions?

Very short stop in Charleston, SC next Wed-Thurs. Looking for something informal, perhaps a little different, maybe seafood or local but not heavy Southern food where a middle aged woman would feel comfortable eating alone.

Hi gail, I would give anything to have dinner again at SNOB. I had their Rack of Lamb which was fantastic. And I would feel comfortable going there by myself.

Here is their website.

I haven't been to the other restaurants that are listed here on your thread however. But I loved Charleston. Have a wonderful two days!

Jestine's for lunch - Southern food, yes, but it doesn't have to be heavy - you can get veggies - and the room is an open, busy, happy place - I'd eat there alone in a heartbeat!
Sermets on the corner of Wentworth and King as an alternative lunch place - I have eaten there alone and really enjoyed the people watching.
Hanks for dinner - great seafood and again, an open, happy restaurant that is great for people watching.
Wish I could meet you so that you wouldn't have to eat alone! Enjoy!

Actually Gail if you eat at S.N.O.B. you won't be eating alone. The table's are so close together, you're one big happy family. I do say that with a smile and the food is good but I made many friends that day.

Another vote for Magnolias where I have enjoyed many dinners. I was in Charleston in Oct. and ate there for lunch which is also a good choice.
I also enjoy Poogan's Porch for lunch.

If you have nice weather, you might enjoy outside courtyard dining; some of the restaurants where we enjoyed this (& the food!)have been: Charleston Place Hotel (sorry, don't remember the name of the restaurant, but we had lunch there), Blossom Cafe (lunch), 82 Queen (we love this place; some of the items on the menu are a more low country cuisine, but you do have choices); Peninula Grill - we had dinner here.

I ate alone at Magnolia, 82 Queen (fantastic she-crab soup -local) and Poogan's Porch and felt completely comfortable at all three. The two women sitting near me and I ended up trying some of each other's breakfasts/brunch at Poogan's Porch since the portions were so big!

82 Queen was the most comfortable for me. Magnolia was the more formal of the three I felt, a little more romantic, I remember toasting myself LOL.

I am 42.

Have a wonderful time Gail! I don't think you'll go wrong at any of the places mentioned, I really wanted to try SNOB but ran out of time!

Gail--Hank's has a communal table--great food, good atmosphere and you won't be dining alone.
