One day in NY city
We posted saw our message and since then it has disappeared can anyone explain why? We really want to know what we can see and do in one day in NYC in November. We will be staying out at JFK so what is the best way to get into town?

The easiest way, and the most expensive, is taxi - at least $40 each way. The least expenive way is public transportation (bus and or subway). Cost would be $1.50 per person. If you opt for this method check with the hotel for travel info using public transportation.
You can accomplish quite a bit in one day. If you would indicate what you would really like comments on feasibility can be provided. For example, if you want to see Times Square, visit the Empire State building, walk through Central Park, visit Rockefeller Center and stroll on 5th Avenue all of this, and more, can be done on a walking tour of less than 4 miles and could be done in half a day leaving time to do other things.

Can't do much, but you can see a few sights..Central Park, 5th Ave, Empire State Building, Time Square.....you can at least come to the city and get a feel and sense of the energy all that makes NY ...NY..
I just arrived here 1 hour ago into JFK..it is a flat rate for the taxi of $35.00 + $3.50 for a toll charge + tip....Since you only have one day..the easist fastest ...not the cheapest way...but he best way to get to the city is taxi

Times Square-- But just to walk through. Not really anything to do there. Go at night to get the whole effect.
If you have time for any Broadway show, great. Try the 47th street TKTS booth close to theater time so you don't have to waste several hours in line (there will always be something left) or get full price tickets in advvance or at the box office to save time
Staten Island Ferry ride--runs 24 hours a days, so you can go whenever you have about an 2 hours to spare (trip is about
1 hour round trip, plus time to get there and back plus waiting time if you don't get on a ferry right away.
You get a great view of the State of Liberty without the time involved to go there and a great view of the NYC skyline on the way back and its FREE! Again, great at night.
I don't know what days you're coming but any day but Monday, the Metropolitan Museum of art is a must. If you don't want to see paintings or sculpture, there's photography, Egyptian Greek and Roman artifacts, Asian gardens (indoors!) Armor, musical instruments,
a great view from the roof sculpture garden, historic costume and more! They're closed mOndays, so substitute Museum of Modern Art, or Museum of Natural History.
Pick a neighborhood or two--Soho, Village, Upper East or West Side and walk around, shop, eat.
That should fill up your day.
If the money is not much of a factor, take a cab to and from the airport. You will save a lot of time.
Enjoy!
