One day in Homer Alaska..

We will have my 72 year old parents with us.. have heard good and bads on halibut cove. Should we spend our only day in Homer to go to Halibut Cove or what do you suggest? I have been to Alaska but never to Homer.

We will have already done the dog sled tour in Seward, the kenai fjords day cruise in Seward, and halibut fishing out of Cook Inlet before our only day in Homer.

Please help for our HOMER DAY!!

It depends a bit on what time of year and a lot on what you all enjoy. A day trip to Halibut Cove or Seldovia can be fun but you've already done some bay cruising. For something kind of different if you will have a car, I enjoy visiting the little Russian villages around Homer. Ninilchick is on the Sterling Highway before you get to Homer and there are at least two others in the Homer area. The Visitor's Center coming into Homer has information on them.

In season, I also enjoy watching (or participating in) the salmon fishing at the fishing hole on the Homer Spit. The drives along the Sterling Highway coming into Homer and along Skyline Road above Homer are both spectacularly scenic.

We will actually be in Home on June 3rd I believe. That will be our last day in Alaska.. for a while any way. My husband and I have purchased some land in Clam Gulch. We will be checking it out on the way to Homer and hopefully will visit Ninilchik too. Our trip is only one week and we are really wanting them to have a trip of a lifetime! We want them to see why we are so in love with Alaska and want to build there some day. I think they will enjoy the trip to halibut cove but just didn't want to take our whole day doing that if maybe walking around Homer for the day would be just as "rewarding".. If we do the Halibut Cove with Danny J we noticed the price difference for the noon and five o'clock trips are quite a bit different in price. Is one better than the other? Also, should we eat at the saltry while there?
Thanks!

I love the rocky beach at Ninilchik and there was a great little shop there too.

We were in Homer about the same time a few years back. My fondest memory was just sitting on a bench on the Spit watching the eagals.

Thank you for the suggestions. Has anyone gone to Halibut Cove and would recommend it?
