One day in Dallas!
Hi, everyone. This forum has been so helpful to me in the past, so here I go again. I am going on a brief trip to Dallas in late September. We will be catching a ball game and going out to dinner. I have one day and one late night to plan. Any suggestions for two single women for spending a day in Dallas, and the late-night-life? We don't need dinner or hotel suggestions, as those are already taken care of. We are both in our thirties. We are staying at the Adolphus. Thanks in advance! P.S. We love Texas music!

If you go to Fort Worth, you would enjoy the Sundance Square area downtown-shops, restaurants, theaters- and Billy Bob's Texas in the Stockyards-dancing and country music. They also have a very fine art museum- the Kimbell. Dallas has an art museum downtown and the shopping at NorthPark center north of downtown is great-Neiman Marcus and many specialty shops. Don't know where you're coming from, but it'll be very hot here. This old family man can't advise on the night life-sorry!

Hilary, xxx & xxx- I am taking my 15yr old son to the Charger-Cowboy game on September 23. We are going with a Charger fan trip because my son is a big Cowboy fan - and we live in San Diego. Everyone else will be going on a pub crawl on Saturday night. Well, as this is not really OK for my son, does anyone have a suggestion for something to do with a football loving-and-playing teenager? It can include dinner. We're staying at the Marriott Forum. Thanks for any help, and Hilary, I hope you don't mind me jumping into your thread!

For both Hilary & Barbara, I'd direct you to the Dallas Morning News website --- or more specifically the 'GuideLive' section which provides an extensive list of activites, restaurants, movies, etc for Dallas area.
GuideLive Best of the Weekend [[email protected]]
Hilary:
Didn't say whether you'll be renting a car or not --- this is a pretty spread out area & many places can only be reached via car. However as you're staying downtown @ the Adolphus, you've got a couple of convenient options --- a section of downtown called the "West End" is about 5 blocks from the Adolphus. Admittedly haven't been there in awhile and so, I'm not sure as to the restaurants/bars that are there to provide you a specific suggestion. Another closeby option is to go to 'Deep Ellum' --- for this, it's a short taxi ride & again there's many small clubs/restaurants that get quite busy after 9 / 10 pm.
Finally I'd suggest you consult with the Adolphus -- it's a nice 'old world' hotel & I'm sure the concierge would know where the latest 'hot spots' are for you to check out.
P.S. Fort Worth is nice and XXX's comments are correct, HOWEVER for your short stay it's ludicrious to trek the 30 miles out there. There's plenty of action in Big-D. No need to schlep out to cowtown.

Guidelive.com is the web site for the Guide Live section. You can get lots of good info as the previous poster mentioned. Deep Ellum is the closest and has some nice clubs. A Gilleys opened just south of downtown but I haven't heard much about it. Lower Greenville is a short distance northeast of the downtown area and has nightlife there as well. As nice as Fort Worth is, I agree that in your short time, it isn't worth the drive.

I have to agree that Fort Worth is my favorite memory of my trip to Dallas. I loved the food and enjoyed roaming around the Stockyard area of town. Coming from Southern California, somehow a 30 mile drive didn't even phase me. I commute that far every day to just get to work. Not a big deal on vacation if it means getting to a fun area of town.

Check out the "Deep Ellum" section of Dallas. Have dinner at Monica's Acca Y Alla - a noisy and wildly popular nouvelle Mexican restaurant that is turned into a dance club after dinner - lots of great looking and fun people in their late twenties and thirties (and they still let me in for dinner anyway - can you imagaine?!). Cafe Brazil is a nice kinda funky place for espresso drinks and good desserts and there are a number of great live music clubs in that district including Blue Cat Blues and the Gypsy Tea Room. Deep Ellum is only a few blocks long - just park and walk to everything.

Go-Here is right! If you are going to Dallas when the State Fair in on, you need to go. If you like museums, we have the Women's Museum (affiliated with the Smithsonian), African-American Musuem, Natural History, Science (with I-Max theater), etc. If you like food, you will not be disappointed. Exhibits (livestock, cars, crafts, food, transit, cultures, etc.). Concerts and shows all day/night long, parade, fireworks, etc. It is right off I-30 so easy to hit the freeways to the ball game.
