We will be flying into Boston for one day, May 18th. What sights should we see to make the most of our time? We plan to use the metro and walk. Also where is the location of Mikes Pastry? Thanks

First off, look for the T, not the metro. - hee hee =)

Mike's Pastry is in the North End, on Hanover Street. You can take the Green or Orange lines to Haymarket or North Station and walk through the Big Dig (the highway construction monstrosity - can't miss it), and follow everyone else to Hanover, which is the main drag. (Mike's may even be on the Freedom Trail, a red stripe runs along the sidewalk...)

If you go there, Paul Revere's House is around the corner - very quick trip, rarely crowded. Also the North End church, where the "one if by land, two if by sea" signal went out.

The Freedom Trail goes throughout downtown, starts at the Common, winds past churches, the Old Statehouse, Bunker Hill and the USS Constitution. If you do the whole thing it's a FULL day, no pit stops allowed.

If the weather is nice, get dinner near the waterfront or Fanueil Hall or the North end, somewhere you can sit outside. (Fanueil Hall / Quincy Mkt. is also on the Trail - shopping and dining area, closest to the Gov't. Center T stop).

Rachel's tips were pretty good. Are you staying in town, or killing time between flights at Logan??

If the latter, take the free shuttle bus from the terminal to the T stop on the Blue Line. I think the Aquarium stop is still closed, so get off at STATE, where you'll be at the Old State House. Right outside, you'll see the Freedom Trail marked in the pavement, and follow it downhill, past Faniul Hall on on the Little Italy.

If you plan many short T rides, there's an all-day pass you can get, not sure of price now, but used to be around $4. Each subway ride is $1 (generally).

There's a water shuttle near the aquarium that will take you over to Charleston (Old Ironsides) which will accept the all day pass.

I won a free trip to fly into Boston for just the day so, we want to see all of the top sights. If we like it, we may make it our next vacation. Also what does Mikes Pastry have that makes it so good. Oh, also where should we go for great seafood?

I actually prefer Modern Pastry for most things, but Mikes has better Lobster Tails

You should walk around Beacon Hill and Back Bay while you are here, as well.

Where is modern Pastry and what do you like the best

Mike's Pastry is a great spot in the North End. Great coffee too. I would walk through the Common and the Public Gardens, maybe stop into "Cheers", and shop on Newbury Street. Go to the Barking Crab for some seafood on the water and to see the locals.

Have never made it to Modern, but just walking into Mike's pastry send me into a sugar overload.. I don't know what the Lobster Tails are at Mike's, but it's obviously a pastry thing so Charles tell me what they are so I can drool over my keyboard... One day in Boston on May 18th..how cruel...it is also the time many of the colleges are having graduations so it should be tourists, families and new graduates galore..Don't forget to go to Copley Square..Skipjacks has great seafood..it's across from the Trinity Church..

Moderns is across the street from Mikes and around 50 yards toward the financial district. Where they really shine is their cannolis. A lobster tail, which Mikes only does on weekends usually, is something Mikes invented. THink of the worlds best, largest eclair without chocolate.
