One day in Austin, Texas

I have one day to spend in Austin and would appreciate some suggestions. So far, I think that I would like to see the Capitol, walk along the river and eat at Cosmic Cafe. Also, I'm interested in the architecture of downtown buildings....any "do not miss". Would love to see the bats but the plane leaves at 6:30. Thanks in advance.

Do not miss the Driskill Hotel on Sixth Street (corner of Brazos) for architecture. Not exactly downtown, but St. Edwards University is awesome for architecture too. It's just south of downtown.

Lots of other places to suggest but let me know your interests before I make recommendations.

We are interested in eating at a good vegetarian restaurant, getting a little Texas history, seeing a little architecture, and enjoying a little nature....Thanks again.

Check out the Austin Chronicle for music. Not sure which day you're referring to.

Just saw your last post. The capitol building is great for history as well as the Bob Bullock Texas History Museum. There's also an Imax theater there. Nice building too. Across the street is the new Blanton Museum of Art. It looks a little plain from the outside but I enjoyed the architecture on the inside. Wasn't crazy about the art collection though.

Haven't eaten at Cosmic Cafe but it's in a great location in Clarksville. You won't have trouble getting vegetarian at most restaurants. Also, check out the flagship Whole Foods store on Fifth and Lamar. It's pretty amazing.

Once again we're posting at the same time! I don't know of any live music tomorrow afternoon but whatever there is will be listed in the Chronicle. Most places with music start later than 6:30 pm.

Me again, not sure where you're coming from but if it gets too hot for you, you might consider renting a kayak on Town Lake. Definitely go walking around it too but try to do it early cause it's been really hot lately.

All of my suggestions have been downtown. Let me know if you have a car and want to venture out a little.

AustinTraveler, Thank you so much for your suggestions. I think that I have enough to keep me busy...don't want to pack too much in to my day. I've already decided that I must plan another trip though....

You could go to Hippy Hollow and work on that all-over tan.
