Olympic National Park Lodges
Last year we stayed at Lake Quinault Lodge and truly enjoyed it. This year, I am considering either Lake Crescent or Kalaloch Lodge. Has anyone stayed there? I did check Trip Advisor but i trust Fodors more. Thank you!

Crescent Lake Lodge has a delightful setting, but there are no rooms comparable to the fireplace rooms at Lake Quinault Lodge (which have fireplaces, balconies, and televisions).
At Lake Crescent we prefer the Marymere Rooms because they are the closest to the lake. The setting is beautiful but the rooms are simple--beds, bathroom, small porch, and nothing more.
Most years the restaurant at Lake Crescent has been better than the one at Kalaloch Lodge, and Lake Crescent is more centrally located in the park than is Kalaloch.
Kalaloch Lodge sits on a cliff high above the ocean. The rooms and cabins are not close to the water.
In Port Angeles the Red Lion Inn has good rooms with balconies that overlook Puget Sound, the Victoria ferry terminal, and Mt. Baker. There are some good restaurants in Port Angeles and nearby Sequim.

Thanks, HTTY, are you suggesting Port Angeles? It seemed a bit uninteresting when I have been through it. But I never spent a night there. Lake Quinault Lodge was a beautiful setting, so we were thinking of something similar. Sounds like Lake Crescent might be the one that is more similar to lake Quinault.

we stayed at both Kalaloch and Lake Crescent, though it was 5 or so years ago. Lake Crescent definitely had a better dining room, and was a lovely spot. The restaurant at Kalaloch was mediocre, and the rooms were fairly plain and basic, But the view was spectacular. We loved sitting out in front of our cabin at the picnic table, listening to the surf roar.

Thanks, china_cat. I was looking for exactly that kind of feedback from people who have been to both lodges. I think Lake Crescent sounds like the one for us, just because we have a 5 year old boy and Kalaloch might be too challenging for us to keep him entertained. I understand there is no tV, we also don't want to be somewhere where it might be too steep or dangerous for him.

I'm just describing it as an option available to you. In the past a basic room at idyllic Lake Crescent has cost about the same as the room I described at the Red Lion Inn which has a great view, all the amenities, and easy access to a variety of restaurants and Hurricane Ridge.
