Olvera Street

I have never been. I will be in LA at the end of March. Is it worth a visit? I collect Mexican Folk Art. Can I buy it here? Do they sell Day of the Dead statues?

thanks!

The best thing about Olvera Street to me is the history and the restaurants. There are a couple of galleries in the arcade that might have collectables but almost all of the shopping places are filled with tourist junk.

The Mexican candies in some of the stands are a treat (but I can't have them) and there is often hispanic entertainment in the plaza.

It's fun to visit but I would not set my heart on finding collectables.

I haven't been to Olvera Street in a couple of years, but I always enjoyed it. Free tours are offered by Las Angelitas Wednesday through Saturday from 10AM until noon. There are over 20 historical buildings, a church, restaurants, souvenir shops and galleries. I am sure you will find what you are looking for.

You'll enjoy your visit. Check out the nearby Union Station while you're in the area.

I visit Olvera street every time I go to LA because it's fun. I was there right after Christmas and one of the shops had a lot of Day of the Dead statues. Every profession ot hobby imaginable. I think they are overpriced however because it is a big tour bus stop. But if you're short on time and really want one, you'll find it there.

Have fun!

Hi Shari,
Around that time of year, almost every single shop had Day of the Dead statues, candelabras, and everything else you could imagine.
