PaulRabe and NeoPatrick, so sorry I missed this conversation! Life took a crazy turn these last few weeks and unusual for me, I've actually been afk most of the time.

PaulRabe, we have a Sun. afternoon Arden package, not evening.
I think you summed up the performance perfectly, and doubt that NeoPatrick would have enjoyed it, given what a theater buff it sounds like you are, Neo. I had mixed feelings about it myself, as I often do with these modernized versions of classics. I tend to prefer the Arden performances to those I see at Phila. Theatre Co., where we have a partial subscription too, but I did very much enjoy Vanya, etc.

I'm feeling like Philly productions in general, tho', haven't been as strong as some of the past. For instance, after having loved Tribes when saw it at Barrow St. Theater in NY, I'd been looking forward to seeing another production of it at Phila. Theatre Co., but was very disappointed.

Is it just me? DH might blame my hormones, lol. But actually, he's been agreeing with me. We do miss some, tho', so maybe we've just had less fortunate picks in the last year or so.

NeoPatrick, we tend to forget about Bucks County theater and I know they have some good productions, I'll have to remember that for this summer! How far ahead do you generally need to get tix for a weekend production, do you know?

Actually last summer tickets were still available for most performances a week before -- but tended to then sell out for weekend performances.

A week ago, I attended a splendid production of Arsenic and Old Lace at Walnut Street Theatre -- a matinee. I parked at a cheaper lot I know in Old City near the Arden, and really had to use the restroom, so headed there to use theirs. I took a peak inside the theatre at the Three Sisters Set. I could see the type of production being described, and while I applaud that for their educational programs, particularly for students, I'd say that "no", I probably wouldn't have enjoyed it that much.

Oh, but by the way, on my way walking to Walnut Street, I was able to finally take a good look at the mosaic -- The Dream Garden. It IS spectacular.

Oh, the Commissary!

And Entrees on Trays!

Saladalley!

And right outside Saladalley that man would sell Peruvian sweaters from his pushcart!

Oh, and La Terrasse if you were really old money!

And Deux Cheminees!

And Nan Duskin!

What was that horrid glass restaurant across from Le Bec Fin back in 1988?

My friend Lucia loved to have lunch there.

It's all a nightmare now.

DH and I went on our first date to the "new" Frog and I still use the recipes in my Frog/Commissary cookbook. Love the oatmeal cookies! I had many work lunches at Saladalley and spent all my money at the Urban Outfitters nearby. I miss The Garden and Astral Plane.

Thanks, NeoPatrick, for the info on Bucks Co. (and also reminder that the Walnut St. Theater is worth keeping an eye on as well) and glad you got a good look at, and enjoyed, the Dream Garden mosaic.

And while not sure I completely understand where the next posts come from, I just took a cooking class a few weeks ago with one of the chefs from the Commissary/Frog! And also had a sort of date there with someone who told me he wished he was meeting me when I was 10 yrs. older (I was about 19 at the time), lol looking back I was lucky he was discerning! And yes, I was a happy owner of one of the Peruvian sweaters for many, many years.
