OK then what about the weather in May?
Would like to plan a spring trip to the Maine coast and then inland to New Hampshire and Vermont. From previous posting it looks like April is too iffy weather wise but what about mid May?

May is "iffy" also, and so is June.
You just never know...
Generally speaking, May is warmer than April, but it could be cooler, and everything turns on your dates, but it's just not predictable. In other words, it could be warm and sunny the week you're there, or the week after, or the week before, or for a few days, or not.
Starting in mid-May, the trees will likely have leaves.
By the way, Spring, if there is one, generally lasts only a few days, and you just never know when that will be.

HI LOVEITALY! Great web name. I love Italy also. We are planning three trips in 2008. One will be Maine, one will be Oregon and one will be who knows.Looking at May, July and Sept. but May seems to be the hard one weather wise so that is why you are seeing many posts for different states.

Thanks twelveoaks, I was confused.
I live in Northern California. I have always enjoyed Oregon in September the best. I don't know where else you want to go to but have you thought of the southwest during May?
Or maybe we should send you to Italy, May is usually beautiful!
Anyway, I envy you with being able to plan three wonderful trips!!

Is there a reason you aren't traveling in June?
June is a wonderful time to visit Maine (assuming you won't miss sunbathing). The weather is pleasant, you get off season/shoulder season rates, everything is open, but the crowds haven't arrived yet.

Now wait a minute. May is usually very nice up here. It's not sunbathing weather, but certainly fine for visiting beaches even if you need a wind breaker. The grass is green, spring flowers are plentiful, and the leaves on the trees are that new green color. It's very pretty. There could still be snow in the mountains, so hiking might not be good then.
