Ogunquit in summer?
I'm planning on a trip in July to ogunquit during the week. I've heard it can be very busy on the weekend, but was wondering how crowded it was during the week? Anyone here been before? How was your experience? I've also heard that it is popular with the gay and lesbian community? I don't really care, but would like to know what to expect.

Ogunquit is always crowded in the summer, doesn't matter what day. That being said, you can always find a patch of beach that's somewhat empty. Naturally the downtown is fairly empty on hot summer afternoons, but the sidewalks quickly fill up towards evening. Ogunquit is popular with the gay community, but it certainly is not like Provincetown. Ogunquit is also very popular with families and couples.

Yes, it's very busy weekends. Best is to stay away from Route 1, once you've arrived (use the trolley rather than your car for getting around, unless you want to drive the back roads, over to the Cliff House, for example). Reservations are a must at the better restaurants, even during the week. Make them now.
Ogunquit is very gay-friendly, though you'd probably never notice. Many accomodations and shops are owned by gay folks, where the service is superb and the merchandise wonderful, respectively.

Ogunquit is a beautiful little town, right on the ocean in Maine. It's pretty hard to stay away from Route 1, that's the major way to get there, unless you know the back ways from York. If you go, make sure to take a walk on the Marginal Way and then have a nice dinner at Hurricanes Restaurant down in Perkins Cove (Barnacle Billy's or the Oarweed) are nice too. Good luck

Been going to Ogunquit since I was a kid in the 60's. Agree with previous posts but its not too bad during the week. Just stake a place out on the most beautiful beach in the world and enjoy the sugar soft sand, cold water and beautiful view.
