October Weather USA?

Hi everyone
I am desparately trying to decide where to go for our holiday this year. At the moment the 'HOT FAVOURITE' is Florida in November. As my husband and I really enjoyed it when we visited last year and there is still somethings we would like to see and do.Also the weather appeals to us.(as in the UK we've had a crummy summer so far).

But we have'nt made up our minds for sure. If we visited another state we would probably come late September or sometime in October. We enjoy the outdoors (but maybe not anywhere too remote) as we also enjoy a few man-made attractions,we like visiting towns not BIG cities, also my husband likes the idea of trying out some watersports, maybe jet-skiing,sailing or waterskiing.
I know its impossible to get the perfect holiday, but I am trying as hard as I can.

Thanks again for all your help. I know I've been asking sooooo many questions.

October is the best month of the year for visitng California. The days are warm and clear. Ocotber in Florida can be very rainy and story. The best time for visiting Florida ( weatherwise ) is February-April.

Have to disagree with Cal. Florida is usually beautiful in October. The worst of the heat is gone and the weather is finally pleasant again, although that is still within our hurricane season. With the exception of sailing, where you don't have to get wet (unless you are on sunfish or the like), water sports outside of FL in late Sept or Oct would be very iffy.

Nic, I'm in the Tampa Bay area and although I wouldn't go in in November, some of our visitors swim all year round. Much depends on what you are used to. I'm accustomed to water temps over 80 degrees which we have in the summer, so when it falls below 70, it feels very cold. You'd tolerate far lower temps than I would, most likely. I've forgotten how to convert temps from F to C, but if you need a "translation", I'll try to redo it.

The New England states are beautiful in October--foliage is at its peak in northern New England, and bugs are gone. If you like outdoor activities, you might consider New Hampshire or Vermont; if you like more urban things, Boston is very interesting and pretty. Cape Cod, to the south of Boston, is lovely and quiet in the fall. Temperatures are probably in the 50s and 60s, Fahrenheit.

Nic...the 50-60F that Penny talks about converts to 10-15.5 Celsius.

The 80 and 70F in my note, above, is equivalent to 21.1 and 26.6 Celsius. Air temps are generally in that range in Fl in Novemeber as well. However, I recall a Thanksgiving about 4 years ago where the daytime high was only 10C. It was probably the coldest daytime high of the entire year and a rare event but it can happen.

Try Las Vegas and the surrounding area in October or late September, after its cooled down substantially. You have Lake Mead nearby and if you're willing to go farther, there's Lake Havasu in Arizona and the Canyons in Utah (although it may be too cold in Utah at that time)
