October is a great time on the Cape. The weather is lovely for walks on the beaches (though not swimming), golfing is still going strong. Crowds are gone but its not dead. The Cape is a relatively short drive from Boston so there are lots of weekenders around. Antiqueing on RT 6a would be fun. I would suggest staying in Chatham - its a lovely little village with some very nice inns.

My husband and I were thinking about Cape Cod in October as well. We were hoping to see some nice fall foliage and take in some relaxing sights, but would also like a little entertainment at night. Are you sure it's not dead in October. We're not looking for Mardi Gras, but a little livliness would be nice Also, is the Chatham Bars Inn as lovely as it looks on the website?

I grew up in New England and so never considered "cruising" there as a vacation option. However now that I'm in a different section of the country, THIS sounds really neat. I know we're not supposed to advertise (I'm now affiliated), however this cruise idea may be an option for a fun way to relax AND to experience the Northeast colors without the tie-ups in traffic.

One more thing --- this package price sounds a bit pricey to me, however it's from a e-mail newsletter that caters to a high end clientele.

Gail - don't look for foliage on the Cape. There are primarily scrub pine trees there. And yes the Chathams Bar Inn is lovely - better than the web site. But am basing opinion on having only dined there not stayed. The Cape is starting to experience more growth from year round residents so its not as dead as it used to be down there.
