Ocean Key Resort - recommend?
We are celebrating our 10th anniversary with a few days in Key West. Looking for someplace with nice rooms(romantic even - it is an anniversary !) Ocean Key looks nice on the web but very pricey. Anyone stayed there or have a better suggestion?

Check out the B & B's in Key West @ www.keywest.com for something more romantic. Can't suggest any over the other though.

Lisa: There's a huge number of places to stay in Key West. All kinds, in all price ranges. Ocean Key House is nice, and it has a prime location, so it will be expensive.
You can do a search on Key West here (KW accommodation comes up regularly.) But there's something else that might be worth a shot. www.keywestwelcomecenter.com , phone number is 800-284-4482.
We know our way around now. But when we started visiting down there, we found the welcome center to be quite helpful.

Ocean Key is a GREAT choice. The hotel was just renovated a couple of years ago and they have some of the prettiest rooms on the island. They have great balconies to see the sunset from and some even overlook Mallory Square (where the sunset celebration takes place). It is very much a couples hotel so you won't run into too many, if any, families staying there. Make sure you get a room overlooking the water.

Lisa - The Ocean Key is a hotel at a great location, but if you try to save money there, you will end up in a less than desirable room location... If its romance you are looking for at a more reasonable price, consider the Chelsea House B&B. The main house has some well done rooms and there are out buildings as well... what makes the place great is the tropical pool and patio area, as well as a private porch on some rooms.
Those of us who visit KW often cannot emphasize it enough... Key West is the only place on earth that you MUST stay away from the Hotels and Chains and stay in the native lodgings in Old Town. That is half the charm of the KW mystique.

I too love the Ocean Key resort. The rooms are beautiful but Gary is right. Either go all out and get a room with a view of the gulf and if you can't afford it look at a B&B. A trick to keep in mind is if you book at the Ocean Key Resort tell them it is your anniversary and maybe they will do something special for you. It is a beautiful place. I think the people who own Little Palm Island (one of the top places in the world)up the Keys also own this place.

I stayed at the Ocean Key Resort in a suite and loved it. I agree about requesting a room on the water, though. We ended up with a balcony overlooking an outdoor restroom! I understand many people prefer B&Bs but my husband and I aren't among them. We spend about a month a year in Key West - two weeks in the fall and two in the spring - and have never stayed in a B&B. We stay at the Galleon.

Hi!
I never seem to see many recommend Pier House, but hubby and I spent 3 nites there for our tenth year before last. We had a garden view room in the Caribbean Spa wing (first room did overlook the parking lot, but we asked and were moved) Not an ocean view, but a VERY private large patio. Huge bath w/large jacuzzi (okay, a bidet too) Big kingsized bed and Pier house has its own little beach. Music all day, right in the middle of everything and we loved it! Seems I may have gotten a little better rate than those on the website via phone call. Have fun!

I've been to key west but never stayed at the Ocean House
However,,,
I did receive from them a certificate good for $200 off any food and beverage(including in- suite) or for any gift shop purchase,
It is valid on a with a one or two bedroom suite (3 day min) through may 31.
The certificate is transferrable. I safed it because the certificate is transferrable,,,and I hated to see it go to waste.
Let me know if anyone can use it,,otherwise.

You will have a great time. Just some info for ya - ask for a 3rd or 4th floor room and a 324 or 424 room number or higher. I might be wrong on the room numbers but I am close. Just to sound like you know what you are talking about, tell the reservation agent you want to be able to see the water from your room, NOT the balconey and looking off to the side.
