Hi. Every year the week prior to Labor Day we go to the Dunes. It is located at the far north end of the Boardwalk at
29th St. There are 2 buildings, one more modern 5 story facing the ocean and a smaller, older 2 story that wraps around the small pool. We always stay on the upper floor of the ocean side building, all rooms of which have balconies. Those rooms have 2 x double beds & pull out couches, kitchenette w/ basic utencils and a full size fridge. There is a small parking lot that fills up quick and it is walking distance to a few good resturants.
I have not stayed anywhere else so I can't comment to the other hotels. The Dunes is a "family" hotel whose guests seem to be mostly mini-van type folks with kids mostly from PA, VA, MD and NY. It is mostly quiet at night and relatively free from large groups of hard partying college kids. The best thing about the Dunes is access to the wide, clean beach, literally 75ft from the hotels back door. The rooms are clean, the AC works, the showers are hot and the beds relatively comfortable. That said it is not the Ritz, but for a family at the beach it is just fine.
Have fun

I went to the Carousel website and it does look like they have renovated recently. That's good, as it was just gross when we stayed there a few yrs ago. We staeyd there because it had the indoor ice rink, indoor pool, and we got a kitchenette in the condo we had. But it was very tacky.

I've stayed at the Dunes Manor in Ocean City, Maryland. The positives: very convenient to the boardwalk, clean, all rooms face the ocean. The only real negative: the pool is small with very little space for a lounge chair in the sun. Investigate throughly. Several places are real dives.

I've been going to Ocean City, Rehoboth and dewey for years and for the most part going to a name chain has generally produced a decent room.
I also heard the carousel is being redone but it must be 30 to 40 years old and a lot of people own condos there. The Princess royale (Ocean and Bayside) are both nice places as was the Holiday Inn and The Dunes. The Lighthouse has me confused, unless you're talking about Coconut Mallorie.
Go, enjoy, park you car, and ride the bus, you'll never find another parking space.
For most of the places you're talking about you don't want to drive all the way in Rt 50 to lower Ocean City. Go east on Rt. 90 right after Salisbury and that will put you into OC at about 60th Street.
