Oak Creek Canyon vs. Enchantment Resort

My other post got no response so I'm trying again.

All I have read on these posts suggests how great the Enchantment Resort is. Is it preferable to stay there or in the Oak Creek Area? We were planning on taking our 9 year old fishing/swimming, however that doesn't sound too promising with the current drought. We'll be Sedona for 4 days and have never been there. We love to do outdoor stuff, but keep in mind we have a 9 year old. We're not too much into shopping. Both areas look beautiful.

Staying up in the canyon is very different from staying at Enchantment. I have done both (at Junipine up in the canyon and at Enchantment, and at places in between the two). Enchantment is out in west Sedona, and it is at the mouth of Boynton Canyon, right in the middle of some of the best red rocks trails and views in the area. It has a great location for hiking. But staying up in Oak Creek Canyon is also nice. It's quiet up there. You will likely not see the red rocks right out your door, and you will need to drive to hike (there might be a short hiking trail around the place, or you might be able to walk around the creek, even if it is dried up, but you have to drive to the other hiking trails). This is not a big inconvenience by any means.

I remember looking at the place you had reserved, Oak Creek Terrace, when you posted your first post about your trip. That place looks very different than Enchantment and a lot less expensive. It was more rustic and if you have one of the bigger units at OAk Creek Terrace reserved then you will have more space than at Enchantment, even in one of Enchantment's regular casitas, which are not all that big. Personally with a 9 yr old I'd want a little space. I also recall that the place in the canyon had kitchens in some units, and that might be convenient for you. I think perhaps you should decide how much you want to spend. And keep in mind that Enchantment is not the only nice place either, even though you do see a lot of reviews here about it.

The units at Oak Creek Terrace have kitchens too, right?

Thanks for the info. Yes, my understanding is that there is a kitchen, or at least a kitchenette.

Is OAk Creek completely dried up at OAk Creek Terrace, or is there some water flow? I really think the 9 yr old boy would like rock-hopping on the creek outside your door. When I was there in December, there was no water flow under the bridge out by Enchantment on Dry Creek Rd., but there was a pretty good amount of water in the creek in Oak Creek Canyon at Junipine (we stopped to look there and say hi to some people.) Have you called Oak Creek Terrace to see if there is water in the creek there?

They said there was a little water, but fishing would be questionable. We're taking the Pink Jeep sunset Broken Arrow Tour so I assume we'll be checking out the Red Rock, and an ATV Tour down to the Verde River. Other than that, we have nothing else planned.
