It is one of the oldest hotels in Waikiki, but it is also one of the most luxurious. It is on the most crowded area of the beach in the busiest area of Waikiki. It is also VERY VERY expensive compare to most other hotels in the area. But then you probably new that if you have already booked your stay. Aloha!

We have stayed there & this is my opinion...the public rooms are grand!, they are open air & beautifully furnished.
The rooms are in two sections, the "historical" & the Tower. Many people recommend the Historical wing, however, I do not. The rooms are small & often the view of the water is obstructed.
The tower rooms are newer, & much larger....but the bathrooms are TINY.
The Hotel has a roped off piece of beach where you sit, practically touching the person on either side of you.
Food is mediocre at best.
I have two other suggestions, one being the Ihilani Resort & SPA on the West side of the Island (web site:www.ihilani.com) or the Kahala Mandarin.

The Sheraton Moana Surfrider is grand. VERY nice.
The rooms maybe a bit small, but the ceilings are high and the furnishings are luxurious, with an antique, mahogany flair. The bathrooms have a lot of marble in them! The lobby area is like a New Orleans look. Skip the restaurants and eat elsewhere though, the prices are high anyway. I agree with the last persons posting, try the Ihilani Resort & Spa on the west side, this place is heaven! I attended a first class wedding here and I was hooked on this place ever since. Enjoy your stay. Aloha!

Phil, received e-mail, but erased before noting your e-mail to send this reply, so here is a suggestion re; your comments. If you want to be in a less crowded area, with one of the biggest, sandiest, flattest and least crowded beach area's on Waikiki I would suggest you go to The Hilton Hawaiin Village, if you have a map, it's between the Ala Wai yacht harbour and Fort Derrusy. Of course if your reservations can't be changed this won't be any help to you. Aloha!

We stayed at the moana a few years ago and we loved it. Sure it is on the busiest section of the beach but we enjoyed the people watching. Noone goes to waikiki for peace and quiet! If you want peace and quiet you have to go to the other islands. We had room in the historical section of the hotel and our room was very large. I have stayed at other Waikiki hotels and the rooms were like boxes. We found our room to be more than adequate and the point of staying here is for the historical feel of the hotel. The veranda for breakfast was a pleasure as we enjoyed the view and the service, although the food was fine but not outstanding. I think you will enjoy a stay here but do ask for a room in the historical part, as it has a much nicer feel.
