NYC trip report - just returned

We just got home July 12 after the weekend with 7 in our group (1 wheelchair).
Stayed at Novotel - beautiful, clean, staff excellent and very good location.

Purchased Gray Line 48 hr. hop on/hop-off after being told all buses were wheelchair accessible. Yes they all had ramps, but very few were operable! Very frustrating considering it was so hot and 1 instance the 9th !! bus that came along actually worked. We almost missed our shuttle pick-up back to airport to catch our flight home but we made it with 20 mins. only to spare. We've been promised a full refund for the passes, hope we get it.
Having said that, the tours were very good and all guided, so even if you're simply using them to get from 1 location to another you get info on the way and the bottom level being air conditioned was much appreciated when the temp. reached 90.

Ellen's diner was fun for the teens in our group. Food not bad.
Madame Tussaud's was a big highlight.
Empire State Building was just something we felt we should do being in NYC but we only stayed up there for 20 mins.
Got tickets for Sweet Charity from TKTS Times Square for 1/2 price ($55.)- very very good.
Canal St./Chinatown good for knock-offs of course. We found the best selection near the pier for Liberty/Ellis Is. All told we picked up 17 purses/wallets for 7 of us! I'm probably wrong but I think my Prada purse just might be leather.
Trump Tower was fun and got picture with doorman.
Macy's was O.K. and we got an 11% disc. for being out of country visitors and another 15% disc. for signing up for a charge card.
Olive Garden was good and they actually let me charge up my chair while we ate.
We were in NYC for 3 night/4 days and we all wished we had another day or 2. We would've loved to see another show and because the buses were unreliable and therefore ate up our time,we could only sail by the Statue and Ellis which was disappointing since our grandparents arrived there from Italy in the early 1920's. Oh well we'll just have to go back!

Thanks for a very enlightening report.

Next time, you might try the public New York city buses, which all have wheelchair lifts.

Glad you had fun in NYC, actually I just returned July 9th from a week there and had a wonderful time.
I have a question, how long did you wait in line at the Tkts booth to buy those $55. tickets?

It was about 1 hour and 45 mins. so I guess that's not bad. Did you also get tickets there?

That's not really too long considering the length of the lines every time I looked at them. No, we decided to forego a show this time. Usually we book ahead before we leave home. Since we were there the week of July 4th and it was very crowded the lines at the TKTS booth were 4wide and circled around the block all week all day! So glad for you and your good price!!
