NYC transportation for 4

We're planning a 3 day trip for 4 people to NYC. Once we're in Manhattan, what is the best way to get around? In the past, it's only been the 2 of us, so we rode the subway to save money. If we needed to be somewhere in a hurry, we'd get a taxi. Now that there are 4 of us, I'm wondering if using Uber and taxis might be more convenient and cost about the same. We don't plan to need transportation frequently throughout the day. My guess is that we will primarily be getting to an area for the day and exploring, but things can change. On the other hand, this may be the only trip one of us ever takes to NYC, and I'd hate for her to miss the whole subway experience.

I suspect most short trips would be the same or cheaper by taxi. You might get one Regular pay-as-you-go MetroCard to share for the four of you so you will have it for longer distances.

We took our kids on the subway when we went. It was a great experience.

We take the subway because we find it's almost always faster than a taxi.

Yeah, I really like it. I went to visit a friend who lived there a long time ago, and he showed me how great it could be. It stresses my wife out though.

Both are good options, it depends on where you're coming from and where you're going. Some places are easier to get to by subway, and others by taxi.
