Im headed to NYC next week. My plane arrives in Newark and then I must get toHilton Garden Inn New York/West 35th Street. What's the fastest and cheapest way to do this?

You can take Airtrain to NJ Transit to New York Penn Station

And then walk from Penn station assuming you can easily handle your luggage.

I need to get between LaGuardia/JFK to switch from domestic to international flight (and reverse coming home). Are there shuttles, buses, ? between the two airports? Would I take public transportation into the city then back out? Last time I paid the $45 cab fare each way but there was a time crunch. This time I have 8 hours.

There is regular shuttle bus service between LA and JFK - I think it runs every 30 minutes or so. You will have plenty of time even if your plane is late, you have to wait to collect luggage etc.

However a cab may be cheaper if there are more than 2 of you - since the distance is not great. Going into Manhattan and out again makes no sense. You just hop in the next cab at LGA and say you need to go to JFK.

That's good news! Better than what I was told by a friend of a friend's son who lives there---He says "no shuttle, only regular buses going in and out of the city". Thought that was weird. You think the shuttle would cost the 2 of us close to the $45 we'd spend for a cab? Can you give me a heads-up on where to search for answers? NYC transport site?

I would look at the website for either airport, or do a Google search for transportation between LGA and JFK.

I'm not sure you pay the $45 fare to travel between airports. That fare is only for JFK to Manhatten or vice Veras.. It's probably cheaper on the meter. It would be a little but not a lot more than the shuttle for 2 people.

For the EWR passenger, Airtrain plus NJ Transit is probably both cheapest and fastest. The Hiltin Garden Inn is just a few blocks from Penn Station.

If you look at the LGA web site it will give yuo specific information on the cost of the shuttle to JFK. Ifyou decide to take a cab the fare is NOT $45. The only thing the $45 applies to is the flat fare between JFK and Manhattan. The distance you would be going from LGA to JFK is much shorter and the fare on the meter would be more like $12 or perhaps $15 (plus tip naturally)- depending on traffic,

I'm not sure why you keep talking about going into Manhattan. LGA and JFK are both in Queens - east of Manhattan - and you would go directly from one to the other - nowhere near Manhattan.

nytraveler, Do I really "keep talking about going into Manhattan"? Don't mean to cuz I don't want to. I know that "Going into Manhattan and out again makes no sense." That's why I responded with "Thought that was weird" when a NY-er gave me the into-the-city-and out-again strategy---because I know that "both are in Queens". And that's why I came here to get correct info. Yes, I am accustomed to paying $45 fare when I visit NY---LGA to midtown. But this time I'm not visiting NYC. Just cutting $300 off my airfare by flying to Rome out of JFK instead of from my hometown airport. Coming in thru LGA because I can get there for $5, but of course flight to Rome is out of JFK. Hence my interest in just getting from one airport to the other. My gut told me there had to be a convenient way, but I was ignorant of what The Way was. Ignorance now addressed. Thanks to Fodorites.
