NYC to Alexandria, VA
Hi!
I'm going for a conference in Alexandria, VA from NYC. It will be held at Embassy Suites, not sure if there is more than one in that area.
I am wondering what will be the best and easiest way to get to Alexandria from NYC. Any particular bus company? Or is it best to fly?
Secondly, is this part of Alexandria accessible by train from DC? Basically, how long of a commute is it from DC? And is it necessary to hire a car or is Embassy Suites accessible from the bus/train station?
Thanks for the help!

Embassy Suites on King Street in Alexandria is just across the street from the Washington Metro. If you go by train from NYC to DC, you can board the Metro at Union Station.Check a metro map -- you will have to go from Union Station on the Red line and transfer to either the Blue or Yellow lines to reach King Street Alexandria. Really quite easy. We've often used the Embassy Suites in Alexandria as our base for DC visits, relying on the frequent metro trains from King Street to take us all over the DC area.

Thanks a lot. That was helpful. Sounds like it is a commutable distance whether I stay in Alexandria and trek out to DC or the other way around. Any idea roughly how long the commute takes? E.g. 30-45 minutes, less? I realize it is hard to say exactly.

You can take an Amtrak train directly from New York Penn to Alexandria. The train station is across the street from the Metro station, so you'll have easy access to DC. From Alexandria to DC...probably 15 minutes? Not that long, at all.
