NYC tell me about the waterfalls.
I have been looking forward to seeing this multi location project.
Any first hand reports. It just hit mainstream media. Never made it to the sea of orange in Central Park, but will definately make it to the falls.
Patrick, hope you are still in the city to see them.

Thanks for posting this. I had checked this out several months ago when they were talking about it and I'm sure it said it was starting July 3 or something like that -- after we leave on the 1st. But we'll try to get down to the Seaport and take the boat tomorrow if possible.

OK. We made it down to South Street Seaport yesterday about 2:15. The 2:30 waterfall cruise (CircleLine) was sold out, so we took the 3:30 one. Fortunately we stood and waited most of that time and so we were the first ones on the boat, which is almost all inside seating. We were able to get on the upper back deck where there a couple of benches. Unfortunately it's where the AC units are for the inside, so we were blasted with hot air much of the time, particularly when not moving.
The waterfall under the Brooklyn Bridge is interesting -- almost as if it is incorporated into the bridge itself. The other three are structural towers like scaffolding with water cascading off the top. They just stand in generic places on the shore and seem to have no reason for being there. As one woman near us said, "once you've seen one, you've seen them all." The experience was OK, but frankly I think the original artist's drawings make them look far more interesting and dramatic than they are.
The bottom line? Maybe it's just me, but I wasn't that impressed at all. You can see the Brooklyn Bridge one from South Street Seaport without a boat ride. I wished I could have seen the orange Christo gates a few years ago instead -- which seemed to have more of a statement than I was able to figure out from these.

I only saw them on TV, but thought they weren't very interesting or attractive. Before I saw them, I heard a story and interview with the artist that made it sound like they were going to be interesting. Not so much. Plus it was MANY millions of dollars!

Thanks for your report, Patrick. We're thinking of heading to the area between Manhattan Bridge & Brooklyn Bridge to see the Brooklyn Bridge one. I guess I won't have too high of an expectation...
