Many thanks for your fabulous additions which I missed and apologies for the delay in replying. I really appreciate you interesting suggestions. I have a global membership at the Met and MOMA and I agree it is the way to go.
We love street and mural art and the Audubon's project looks fascinating. We're planning on doing a self guided walking tour of Jacob Lawrence's NY and perhaps we could combine this with the birds. Welling Court looks fascinating too and looks like another great reason to head to Queens.
The Society of illustrators looks great, it's not somewhere I'm familiar with at all. I'd love to go to lunch
My husband was thinking of taking a drawing class and I see they have drop in life drawing a couple of times a week so thanks very much for the suggestion.
So far the tdf membership looks like it's working out, but I'd be interested in a theatre club invite.

Will check your blog and be on to the invite (Note - your global membership at MOMA probably doesn't get you in for members hour) MOMA was a zoo today but Woody Allen and his child wife were wandering the exhibit hiding in plain sight..

We were in the city in August and renewed our MOMA membership, it looks like I changed it from the global to a dual membership just to get the early opening hours.

I haven't seen any Masonic sites in NY, thanks for the link. As you can see from my blog, I love something quirky!
All I can offer is my thanks and the promise of lots of recommendations should you find yourself in Rome, London or Paris!

There's an excellent show at the Neue Galerie, "Berlin Metropolis: 1918-1933, curated and designed by the same people who did the Degenerate Art show. A really good mix of painting, drawing, collage, film, and sculpture, and you can feel the tension of the growing impact of Nazism as the show progresses.

Freetoursbyfoot.com has become very popular; you just tip the guide unless food or a bus are involved. They also have self guided routes posted.
When you're in Long Island City for the Museum of the Moving Image and Noguchi, Gantry Plaza is worth a look. The tram over to Roosevelt Island has great views if you handle heights. The Four Freedoms Park also has great views.

Yes, everyone came up with so many great ideas, I'm exhausted just thinking about them. We arrived in NY this evening so perhaps it's time to start an ongoing trip trip report, not sure anyone does them in the American forum?!!

But we like the Classical Stage Company as their sole mission is to present revivals. We have seen brand name actors in well-known productions at the most reasonable rates.
The are staging Mother Courage next month and during the week it is $61. It is an intimate theater without a bad seat.
