NYC - places to stay

I'm taking my husband to NYC for a night in April and we have filled the day with lots of activities. I'm looking for suggestions on a hotel that won't break the bank (since we won't be in the hotel much), but that is nice (unfortunately we have expensive taste). Any suggestions for hotels or websites where to get good deals? Ideally we're looking in the theater district.
Thanks.

There have been numerous posts from people who have indicated they got a good price for 4 star hotels at the Priceline web site.

Hi Andrea, "rfq" posted some good advice about trying priceline, and you might also want to checkout quickbook.com and placestostay.com I have used both with great success. Good luck!

Hi Andrea,

The Hilton on 6th Avenue (Avenue of the Americas) and 53rd street is nice. It is blocks from Times Square but out of the tourist hustle bustle. Also, it is only a block off 5th Avenue. The rooms are spacious and the prices aren't too bad (around $200). We tried staying in a few other other hotels in the same price range and left upon seeing the room. The Sheraton down the street had rooms so small we couldn't fit both of our suitcases in. Feel free to email me if you have more questions! Good luck!

I got a 4 star for $90 through Priceline, the Millennium Broadway half a block from Times Square. Go to www.biddingfortravel.com for more info.

How is that hotel (Millenium Broadway)? And what about Millennium UN Plaza? There is a special in the NY Times for Millennium UN Plaza for $149/night and it includes either b'fast or parking. Sounds like too good a deal. Does anyone have any experiences with that hotel? 4 stars?

Andrea --
Just tonight (3/10) I bid $100 for a 4-star for 3 nts in May on Priceline and got Hilton and Towers (for a total of $340 for 3 nts with tax). Wouldn't have been my first hotel choice but at that price I'll make do . .. This was my first use of Priceline and at least I can't complain about the price, and haven't read anything really bad about the hotel except that it's a little on the boring (and BIG) side.

Try priceline.com. I also got Hilton Towers (4 star hotel) near Rock Center for two weekend nights in April for $100 per night plus tax. Can't beat it!

Hello Andrea,
Another plug for priceline: Last night I bid $75 for Midtown East, and got the Grand Hyatt (Park Ave. near Grand Central) for 3 nights. If you do this, be sure to read biddingfortravel.com before you jump in. Good luck!

We have been in New York several times over the past few years. We always stay at the Gramercy Park Hotel - wonderful location, great hotel and very reasonable price, for New York that is. We always rent the suite for $ 220 a night. Very much recommended!
