NYC Overnight Stay 12/3 with two 8 Year Olds
Hello
Myself and another mother will be taking our 2 eight year old daughters to NYC. We will be staying near Times Square and are looking for suggestions of things to do. Please make recommendations for restaurants, plays and sightseeing we will then pick our choices and plan our time.
Things we thought we would like to do would be a visit to the American Girl Store, Toys R Us and a view of the Statue of Liberty.
Thank you so much.

Considering you're only staying one night, you may not have time to do too many things... I'd also imagine that your girls may want to stay at the American Girl store for some time...
As for plays, I'd say that you can't go wrong with Wicked / Lion King / Beauty and the Beast / Mamma Mia or Hairspray. It may be late to get tickets for Wicked, but the rest should be easy.
As for restaurants, your girls would love Serendipity 3. I'd recommend that you reserve in advance.

Quick, get your hotel reservations. December 3rd is probably one of the busiests nights of the year.
Best trick for Statue of Liberty, take the free Staten Island Ferry. Also has the best views of lower Manhattan, Financial District and the Brooklyn Bridge.
As far as plays, you are probably only going to have time for one. Pick a Disney Play and try and get tickets. You may have a problem with availability due to the weekend.

When my daughter turned 10 earlier this year, we planned a City day for her (& us!). We live in Long Island so this was just one long day. Will you have 2 FULL days for sightseeing? We spent the day in Midtown:
NY Waterway Sightseeing boat (38th St. & 12th Ave): 1.5 hours, idles at the SOL, great overview, Circle Line does this too but NYW starts earlier.
Brunch at Marriott Marquis (45th St. & 7th Ave.)
Toys R Us (45th St. & 7th Ave.)
American Girl Store (49th St. & 5th Ave.): shopping & also we saw the Musical there. It really was very good especially if you cannot get tix for a "real" B'way show. The little actresses come out after the show to sign autographs.
Becco for dinner (46th St./Restaurant Row): yummy pasta, unlimited & my DD's favorite. Owned by Chef Lidia on the Food Network.
Well that's it. A great day for all & also age appropriate for your girls.
