NYC - Midtown - cupcakes

Can anyone recommend a cupcake shop or bakery near the Club Quarters in Midtown. It is on 45th between 5th and 6th?

There is a Magnolia Bakery on 49th and 6th. Some posters here will say it's not that good, but I like it. Their banana pudding is really really good and I wish I had some right now!

I like Magnolia's.
Any chance you can slip away to Soho or Union Square? If so, I bet you would love the mini-cupcakes by Baked by Melissa. They'll deliver but you have to order lots of them.

My favorite 2 dollar cupcakes are at Milano's at 89th and 3rd. There's also a place in Harlem whose name escapes me at the moment where you can choose your cake, icing and toppings and they will make it for you right there (construct it - the ingredients are there).

Another vote for Crumbs, the chocolate cupcake with coconut topping is sublime.

For elaborate decorated cupcakes but they do not taste as good as the others visit the Cupcake Cafe at Books of Wonder on West 18th Street.

For cutespoo decorated cupcakes see Eleni's in the Chelsea Market.

For good taste

Billy's bakery

I am in Midtown now and looking forward to finding at least one of the cupcake spots.

We found the Crumbs. A plus was that it was right by a subway stop that we were going to use. The cupcakes were yummy. Thanks for the tips.

Could never get near the Crumbs by our hotel - always packed. Did try Magnolia Bakery several times - first the orange cupcake with orange meringue buttercream frosting TO DIE FOR. then a vanilla one with vanilla frosting - also yummy. Had never tried them before and thought it was mostly hype but I liked them.
