NYC in November

We are planning a trip to NYC the week of Thanksgiving. I am traveling with my husband and 8 year old and need some tips on the following.

Hotels-(stay in time square or is it too touristy)
Thinking of a Two night trip to the Hamptons-things to do with kids? Hotels?
kid friendly restaurants in NYC
other kid fun, toy stores, best zoo, museums...

As a New Yorker, I don’t like the crowds in Times Square, but it’s a convenient place to stay. Still, there are plenty of hotels on the periphery that are as convenient but a bit farther from the crowds. Look at the Residence Inn On W 54th st. Great location and a new hotel.
Regarding the Hamptons, I’d say there is almost nothing of interest there in November for kids. If you want to take a car trip head to the Hudson Vslkey where there’s a lot to do. Depending on the weather you may still be able to pick apples in early November. But in general it’s a much more family friendly place.

Sorry I misread. No apples by Thanksgiving but still a lot to do in the Hudson Valley.

Thanks Doug, after looking into the Hamptons a bit more we have decided to do a side trip to DC.
