NYC Hotels

Upcoming trip to the city and can get about the same rate at the Waldorf Astoria or the 74 Park Ave Kimpton Hotel. Which would you choose? Thanks for any input!

I stayed at the Waldorf once but many years ago. I found the room to be tired-looking but as I say, it was a long time ago so maybe they've renovated since. It's a great location, though.

Sadly, the rooms at the Waldorf are really 'tired'; I don't know why they haven't been updated. The common spaces and the lobby are beautiful and of course the location is a plus.

The rooms at 74 Park are rather small (no surprise there) and updated. It has a trendy, boutique feel with narrow hallways, small bathrooms and limited closet space. There's a good Italian restaurant 'across' Park Avenue, Rossini's, red sauce, but it's nice to eat at the bar there. It's also close to GCT if that makes a difference to you.

You can take a look at both hotels on oyster.com to see what the rooms in both hotels look like.

Not sure why you are selecting between these two hotels. The Waldorf public rooms are fine and I beleieve they are renovating sleeping rooms - but have no idea how many - of if the price you have applies to a renovated or "old" room.

Klimpton is new and trendy but IMHO rooms are too small for comfort.

Is this for a couple (don't mind really close quarters) or a single?

I would pick neither. The Kimpton hotel 70 Park is not up to typical Kimpton standards and the Waldorf is in desperate need of renovation. Unless the public space is more important to you than the room, it's a bad option. Have a look at photos on oyster.com There are hundreds of better hotels than both of these. If you want to use a Kimpton hotel, the Eventi is beautiful although not in a gorgeous location (but convenient near Penn station).

I've stayed at the Eventi and location was the greatest. I love Kimptons, how about The Muse instead?

The Muse is a great hotel in an excellent location. I'd choose that over 70 Park myself, both for the quality of the hotel and the quality of the rooms. And the restaurant in the Muse is also pretty good.

Thanks for the help... I did mean to write the location of Eventi wasn't the greatest. I don't think the location other Kimpton... Ink48 is quite where I want to be, but looked like a neat hotel. I'll book The Muse!
