NYC hotels

Anyone have any information on the bedbug situation in NYC hotels? We are getting scary news on just about every location. What's the truth? Anyone familiar with The Iroquois?

Interesting but we haven't heard much about bed bugs in NYC lately. Always a good idea to check reviews on tripadvisor.com If there's a problem you'll hear about it there. The Iroquois is a nice hotel in a good location. It's on the same block as the Sofitel and several other very good hotels. Rooms are not big though.

As usual Mclaurie is right on. If there is a hotel you are intersted in check the reviews on tripadvisor, sometimes if someone has had a problem it is mentioned on the review for that specific hotel.

I agree but advise you to take the reviews with a grain of salt and read as much as you can. You can get some very mixed reviews about some very nice properties. I look at both the reviews on Tripadvisor and the reviews here. Do a search on the Iroquois on this forum.

Good advice Birdie. Also read the reviews carefully - some people really go overboard complaining about things that really aren't a big deal. Also, If there are 10 decent reviews and 1 that trashes the property, you have to wonder.

Tripadvisor is good for places that get a lot of poor reviews. In my experience every hotel - no matter how wonderful - get some bad reviews. Often these come from either people who have unrealistic expectations (their 2* hotel isn't luxurious enough) or try to make themselves more important by demonstrating how picky they are (didn't like the shade of the drapes and call the place a hellhole).

Be especially careful of people who complain about poor service - but don;t give any specifics. IMHO they are often people who are very difficult and rude - and are never pleased with the service (groveling) anywhere.

As for bedbugs in NYC - haven;t seen any reports recently here. Although the daughter of a friend of mine did come across a problem in South Beach recently.
