I have read the other posts about NYC hotels and I have researched hotels for what seems like weeks, but I can't seem to find exactly what I'm looking for and hope that some Fodorites can help.

I'm going to NYC for an Event in May with two friends. We're looking for a nice hotel room for that night with (A) guaranteed two beds, (B) 24-hour room service and (C) a big bathroom for us all to get ready.

We're going to get in at 3am or so and will probably have the munchies. Worst case if we can't find a hotel with 24 hr room service, we can make due with a room with a fridge and just put a sandwich or something in it that afternoon.

I know a lot of people on this board warn against staying IN Times Square, but it's one of my friend's first (and maybe only) trips to NY, and I think she'd really like to be right there in the center of everything. It would also be nice to be in Times Square to walk around before the party and the next morning.

Even though we're not going to be in the room most of the night, we'd really like a room with a great view!

I looked into the Affinia hotels as recommended by a lot of posters here. I couldn't find one with 24-hour room service, and their bathrooms look small.

I think my biggest obstacle has been the fact that we need room for 3 people. That seriously limits my choices, since a lot of hotels that offer double doubles won't guarantee them. Plus, it prevents me from the Priceline route, although I probably wouldn't do that anyway since I'm looking for such particular amenities.

I had a reservation for the Renaissance Times Square (with guaranteed 2 double beds), but the date of the Event changed, and they do not have any rooms with two beds available for the new date, so I had to cancel.

My pricepoint is anything less than $500, preferably less than $400.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I don't know about 24 hr room service, but the best hotels for good space in Times Square are the Doubletree Guest Suites (all rooms have sep. bedroom and bathroom) or Marriot Marquis. Both have good views.

The Blakely and the Rihga Royal also both have 1 bedroom suites (2 separate rooms) but are about 10 short blocks north of Times Square. They both happen to be near a decent French bistro called Maison that's open 24/7. I don't think there are many views at the Blakely. The Rihga does have views. It's in the process of being renovated to a much fancier place (and it's pretty nice now) but there's no restaurant, erego no room service.

We reserved a doble-double at the Hotel Metro, on W. 35th St., between 5th and Herald Square, around the corner from the Empire State Bldg. Room was spacious, hotel terrific, restaurant on site-and coffee tea etc. available 24 hrs in the breakfast room off the lobby.Free continental breakfast every morning.Location great, walking distance to Times Square, Rock Center, etal. Give it a try.

Mclaurie gave good advice about Rihga regarding room service, - we were there last month and while they were then offering room service during renovations on an extremely limited schedule, it was so slow (it must come from elsewhere since the restaurant is closed with the renovations) it took so long I ended up canceling it. They did have a fridge in the suite, which was fabulous, and we kept snacks in there.

We have also loved the Michelangelo close to but not smack in the middle of Times Square but we didn't use their room services, so I can not speak for the hours but you could check online. Our room didn't have a view and I am having trouble imagining any outstanding views from the hotel, but the hotel itself was great.

I personally don't like being smack in Times Sq, but friends who do have stayed at Marquis that Mclaurie mentioned and enjoyed that for all the reasons she mentioned.

Mclaurie and Escargot gave good responses. My two friends and I went to NYC twice and stayed at Doubletree Guest Suites, specifically because they had two beds and a sofa bed and three sinks, two in the bathroom and the bar sink, wonderful!!!! We had been so undecided where we should stay that we went and looked at all the other hotels mentioned in the other responses, would have been happy at any of them. The one thing we didn't like at Doubletree was the restaurant, no windows, dark......we ate at several of the other hotels mentioned here, Marriott Marquis' view restaurant was good and we ate b'fast at others, just to take a look around. We also ate b'fast or lunch at The Plaza and Waldorf, both beautiful. We loved being in Times Square, felt totally safe, walked everywhere and had fun. We had dinner at Sardi's, kind of a zoo, but fun and saw several celebrities and TV anchor types.

Thank you for the suggestions. Hotel Metro is near our Event, so that would be convenient, but their room service stops at 11. Likewise, Doubletree Suites - which looks from the picture like exactly what we're looking for with the big bathroom and separate vanity - doesn't have 24hr room service, either.

Same with the Blakely, although I'm not ruling it out altogether because I did really like the description and reviews. It does have a fridge and a microwave, so we could work with it if we had to.

I might have to go with the Marquis.

Just keep in mind that the Doubletree suites has a fridge in the room AND there are places around TS that will be open. You won't go hungry.

Don't worry about room service. There are plenty of places that deliver very late.
Better food anyway.

Room service would be the least of my concerns and is so darn expensive. I can guarantee, that to the left or right of the hotel's front door you'll find more eateries than you need. You're going to be in mid-town New York, it's the "town that never sleeps."

Even at 3am you can call for delivery from some take-out, especially if you're in/around the Times Square area. Or go out yourselves and pick-up something.

I third the recommendation for The Rhiga.

I agree -- with so many places in NYC that deliver 24/7, I wouldn't worry about room service, which would inevitably be lower quality anyway.

When you're out walking around on your 1st day, pick up menus for places near your hotel. (Most restaurants that deliver will have small delivery menus outside for takeaway.)

In a strange twist of fate, my admin (who also works with the legal Contracts dept) alerted me that our company has discount contracts with the Sherry-Netherland hotel and The Blakely!!!

I looked at both of these, and they both look wonderful!

We're meeting some friends at the GM building the next morning, so the Sherry-Netherland honestly can't be beat in location. Walk downstairs and ta da. Unfortunately, they don't have any double double rooms, and even with the $100 discount, their suites are still too high for my pocketbook, so we'd have to get a king room + a pullout. Not ideal. I love the idea of the free continental breakfast DELIVERED to our door. And little fridge stocked with free sodas and water (shoot, that'll save us $20...) And the hotel just looks SO NICE.

On the other hand, we can get a 2-queen bed suite at the Blakely. We'd have to walk 4 blocks in the morning to meet our friends and we wouldn't get the free continental breakfast and drinks. But we'd all have a comfortable night's sleep.

Neither of these hotels has 24-hour room service, but from what I've read both of them are located near 24/7 places to eat. Plus, they have fridges. And the posters here have convinced me I can make due w/o the room service.

Can anyone recommend one of these over the other? I haven't heard much about the Sherry-Netherland, except that one of the attorneys here said he'd JUST DIE to stay there.

Two bedroom suite at the Blakely each with a queen compared to a room with a bed and a rollaway? And you're hesitating? It would take one heap of a lot of sodas and a lot of breakfast at my door to make up my mind of which one to choose.

I think the question is what is the definiton of the suite at the Blakely. They have studios, 1 bedrooms and 2 bedrooms. I wouldn't have a studio at the Blakely instead of a big room at the SN. But I would prefer a 1 bedroom or larger at the Blakely. Just more space for 3 people.

OK, I just adjusted these stupid new Veralux glasses. I could have sworn it said "two Queen bedroom suite" not "two Queen bed suite" -- considerable difference.
