NYC Hotel help required

I posted this in the Lounge earlier by mistake. I have had some great replies but thought I would post here as well to see if anyone knows a really good deal out there!!!

My DD who lives in LIC has set me a challenge. She has had an e-mail from a friend who intends visiting them from 10/9/10 -10/19/2010. Their place is so tiny they can't have guests to stay but he has found some accommodation at $ 168 per night plus tax. DD wants to know if I can find anything cheaper.

I have had a quick look during my lunch hour but am about to go back to work. I haven't found anything cheaper yet even in LIC.

What is the site that starts with quik...... I have had a look at Travelzoo.

Any help much appreciated. Radio City Apartments is fully booked.

Should he grab this hotel. I have asked DD to find out the name.

Thanks

There is a 2 star listed on Hotwire, it says Brooklyn area for $ 119 per night plus taxes. Any idea which hotel that could be?

Go over to New York Trip Advisor. They have some good suggestions for LIC and others.

The site you're thinking of is quikbook.com but there's nothing cheaper than this. The problem is availability for a 10 night stay on such short notice. The best value hotel in LIC is the Country Inn & Suites but it's not available for all those dates. Your daughter could phone them and find out what nights they are available and if it's cheaper (probably yes) and then friend could decide whether it's worth moving hotels.

The $167 rate is EXCELLENT for this time of year and you won't find ANYTHING for less money in Manhattan or LIC near a subway with a private room/bathroom. It looks like it's at the Holiday Inn View in LIC which is a very good, clean new hotel. BOOK IT before they lose it!

If the friend wanted to stay further from Manhattan/LIC, they might find something in Queens near La Guardia airport, but I don't recommned it.

PS, betterbidding.com has a list of Hotwire hotels. There is no 2* hotel listed though, only 2.5* which is the Holiday Inn Express on Butler Ave., not a bad option.
http://www.betterbidding.com/index.php?showtopic=88& But I wouldn't take a chance b/c it might not be that. Brooklyn is HUGE, bigger than Manhattan and there are some very inconvenient areas where hotels are popping up.

DD has found out the name. Imperial Court Hotel 307 West 79th St.
It is obviously a budget hotel with shared bath but reviews are okay on Trip Advisor.

Well I'm telling you that as of this morning the Holiday Inn View in Long Island City is a new hotel with private bathroom, I think including breakfast is that price and a darn sight nicer. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Rev..._New_York.html
