NYC hotel choice Windsor/Empire/Mayflower-help!
Based on price and location, I'm considering the Helmsley Windsor on W58th, the Empire across the street form Lincoln Center, and the Mayflower on Central Park West. This is for only a one night stay & need to be no more than 10 min. walking distance from Lincoln Center, but clean and reasonably safe are a must. I've read the postings on these hotels, and find nothing recent. Can anyone help?

Hmmmm. Of those choices, I'd probably opt for the Mayflower. It always gets great reviews and is close to Lincoln Center. The Empire is closer, but some say it's run down. I'm not familiar with the Helmsley Windsor.
Be sure to eat at Gabriel's on W 60th for pre-theatre. Very tasty and great service.

stayed at the Mayflower only once about 5 years ago and frankly wouldn't go there again. Unless they have renovated, it is rather "aged" and "dumpy". I have to say that our room was large and we did have a view of Central Park but it had uneven flooring and carpet was shabby, wall paper that needed to be changed. Price was good and location so it depends on what is important to you....Shar

Everytime we are in NY(2-3/years)
Mayflower is one of our choice.
Effectively, 5-6 years ago, it had needed a renovation, but a great part is made.
Only complaint was about the staff before, but since 3 years, service is
perfect and location is great.
So, don't hesite : it's a very good adress and for lincoln, this is only 5 minutes...

The Windsor is very nice, the rooms were big. It was the hotel that I had out of town guests stay at 2 years ago right before my wedding. I am not sure if there is a restuarant in the hotel, but I do think they provide a continental breakfast.

Thanks very much, everyone, for your help. Guess the Empire is dropping like a stone to the bottom of the list! I had stayed there some years ago & it was lovely, if small. But, recent reports show the Empire's rooms need renovation badly...which Ian Schrager is hardly in a position to do right now.
The Windsor sounds like a nice choice, but the convenience of the Mayflower is hard to beat. I may have to flip a coin over those two choices.
