Looking for a good restaurant for lunch or dinner near the Kimberly Hotel area. Our kids are 8 and 10 yrs.

Well - that's primarily a business district - with lots of little lunch places and some nicer and much nicer dinner places.

If by family restaurants you mean with a kids menu - I doubt if you'll find any.

Two places that I went to often for luch when I worked near there - that are not "formal" and won;t have problems with kids - Shun Lee (really good chinese) and La Mangeoire (a french brasserie with lots of things kids will like, many in smaller portions - as well as a nice Sunday brunch). And if the kids are very fussy they can do them a plan roast chicken or grilled steak and frites.

You can look at menupages.com to see their menus.

Lots of NYers only have the vaguest ideas where most of these hotels are. It would help enormously if you actually named the street and avenue - "we're staying at the Kimberly on 50th between 3rd and Lex" . . .

That being said -
Solera, an upscale but friendly Spanish place on 53rd and 3rd . . .
Smorgas Chef - inexpensive Swedish place for lunch at 49th and 2nd
Ess A Bagel at 3rd Ave and 50th
F&B Gudt Food - great upscale hot dogs and fries (really good!) at 52nd and Lex
Zip Burger 52nd bet. 1st and 2nd

There's a Houston's in the Citicorp building (53rd & 3rd) that's supposed to be good. Serendipity is about 10 blocks north.

Burger Heaven is nearby -- 2 locations, I believe -- one on 52nd b/t Madison and Fifth. There are also lots of little delis in the area where you can get a quick bite for breakfast or lunch. Another option might be to eat at the food court at Grand Central. It has lots of local restaurants, including a couple with waitress service, like Junior's.
