NYC CLASSY HOTEL RECOMMENDATIONS?
Am planning a weekend beginning Oct. 17th in New York for our wedding anniversary. I'd like to hear from anyone who can recommend a really fine, classy, hotel in midtown or upper east side Manhattan which has a nice restaurant and lounge with dancing, piano or orchestra and good food. Price is no object. Thanks.

I would recommend the Mark on the upper east side. very classy place...no dancing there however. But, part of the fun of NYC is dashing off in a cab or limo to dance and dine...how about The Rainboow Room for dancing? Have a great time. New York is so romantic!

For our anniversary in August, we stayed at the newly rennovated Roosevelt Hotel in Midtown at 45th and Madison Avenue. It was simply beautiful since the hotel recently opened after a 65 million dollar rennovation. The location was wonderful! The Rainbow Room is simply the most romantic restaurant with the most incredible view of NYC. It resides on the 65th floor of the Rockefeller Center. The band is a latin band with big band sound from yesteryear. Make reservations NOW & request a window seat. On one side of the restaurant is a view of Central Park while on the opposite side is the Empire State Building. Make reservations for 7:30 but arrive early to avoid the line. I have been there, done that....the most incredible night of my life!!!!!!

How about the Plaza? Best location...ask for a room with a view of Central Park. The horsedrawn carriages will be right across the street - highly recommend a ride through Central Park just before the sun sets. Ditto on the Rainbow Room, although the better view (of the Empire State Building, bridges, everything lit up at night) is on the other side at the Promenade bar. Be sure to go to www.metrobeat.com for terrific information on NYC and fabulous maps to print and take with you.

The Carlyle has everything you are looking for, especially if you are ready to shell out some significant cash. They have the lounge with Bobby Short singing (Cafe`) who for years has been a NYC entertainment fixture..If you want dancing and elegance and old fashioned glamour then you anniversary dinner should be either at the Rainbow Room or at one of the top restaurants If you really want a blow out evening. Four Seasons for dinner, dancing at the Rainbow room and back to your hotel for a nightcap and the show at the Carlyle cafe or perhaps see Rosemary Clooney or other top notch singer at Stars up on top of Rockefeller Center across from the Rainbow Room. Another very beauriful and romantic restaurant would be Tavern on the Green in the greenhouse room...as pretty a room as you will find for dining: a glass greenhouse with all the outside trees wrapped in lights, incredible venetian chandeliers providing the most flattering lighting inside. Maybe a hansom cab ride back to the Plaza after for drinks at the Oak Room...Happy Anniversary
