If you go to menupages.com you can find hte actual menus with prices for all of the restaurants mentioned - and decide if they fit your likes/dislikes and price range.

Hopstop.com gives you directions, cost and timing between any two places by foot, subway/bus and cab.

I have a sweet Therapy dog I bring to most places when I can. Not sure about New York but just so you know I have a stroller for him. He is 17.5 pounds. In the stroller they are safe in crowds and they are more welcomed in most places as they are "contained" Just an idea!!! I have seen many dogs in New York but mostly in the street and near parks. That time of year there will be no "outside" eateries where it may be allowed in warmer weather. You would be limited in where you can bring your dog. Due to the colder weather he might be better off staying at home it would be easier for you to enjoy yourself perhaps. I can so relate bringing your dog. I brought mine on the Jersey Boardwalk in summer and it was crowded and HOT. The stroller was a lifesaver--up off the ground no one could step on him, and the police thought I had a baby since dogs are not allowed on the boardwalk till September. It all worked out well for me.

The Health Dept in NYC does NOT allow animals into either stores or restaurants. And most sights (museums etc) also do NOT allow dogs.

Official service dogs are allowed - but the mobbed sidewalks and crowded streets are not something I would subject any animal to. Just as I would not bring a toddler into these areas that time of year - unless you are carrying it. It;s just too easy to fall over a stroller you don;t see in the mobs.

OK...we've covered the dog issue.

As for must see things, my list is:

-Radio City Rockette Christmas show. Splurge for the good seats.
-The Christmas Tree at the Met
-The store windows: Lord & Taylor, Bloomindales, Saks, Barneys, Tiffany & Co., Bergdorf Goodman, and Macy's,
-Strolling around Rock Center for the tree and ice rink.
- The Union Square Christmas Market

Here's a short trip report I posted regarding one of my NY trips:
